The Positive Effect Cycling Classes Have on the Mind

Exercise is good for the body and soul, as the old saying goes. We are meant to be active, to constantly be doing something. It was these words from a friend long ago that convinced me to take my first cycling class. When I walked into the studio, filled to the rim with laughing people getting ready to hop on the stationary bikes, I was amazed at the sense of camaraderie in the air. When the instructor came, we quickly got to work.

The first couple of classes, I was too tired afterwards to stay and chat, but once the initial bouts of exercise worked their way through my system, I found that I was getting more than just physical exercise out of the class. There were three major changes caused by this class, all of which improved my outlook on life and helped put a smile on my face at the start of every day.

Improved Endurance

I no longer was tired after a short walk. This opened up new doors in my life I had no idea were closed. I could go out and socialize during lunch breaks, do things with colleagues after clocking out instead of heading home, heck – I had more time every evening to do the things I liked. All because I had increased physical strength and a reserve that helped keep me from feeling tired.

More Friends

Human beings form bonds in situations where they have no choice but to interact. We see this every day with children inside an elementary school classroom. By signing up for a class, you are putting yourself with several people whom you had never met before. I have formed countless bonds and new friends through cycling.

Happier Outlook

The connection between happiness and physical exercise has been well known for several years now. When I started out, I had what the doctors termed a constant low-grade depression. The choice was either a pill every day, or to simply boost my endorphins with physical exercise.

Sure enough, within a week I felt better than I had in years. Beating my mild depression with exercise also helped boost my immune system, and made it easier for me to interact with others.

It is amazing how much this cycling class has helped me improve my life. It is hard work at first, but as I kept at it I started to find everything in my life improving on a near daily basis.
