Meet Janine – November 2018 Rider of the Month

“Without question, BESPOKE is an obvious choice for those of us looking to shed a few pounds,
increase our activity levels and improve our overall health. I would argue that more importantly
BESPOKE is the place to come to if you are seeking a sense of community. When I was asked
to nominate a rider for our November feature I immediately knew who it needed to be. As the
saying goes “Birds of a feather flock together”, Janine R. is one of the closest birds in my flock.
I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Janine over the past year and I have found her to be
one of the most genuine people I have ever met. As it turned out we had more in common than
our shared love of spin. Janine and her family recently relocated to LA from Bermuda and like
me, she didn’t know anyone and was looking for a community.’ – Rashan
Janine first visited BESPOKE in July of 2016, as of this publication she has taken 530 classes.
Prior to joining BESPOKE Janine tried out some other cycling studio but did not find them to be
inviting. She credits our instructors and front desk staff with motivating her to keep coming
back. This former runner says clipping in daily is part of her inside out wellness. Janine
averages 6 classes a week and can usually be found on her favorite bike, #6. Spin allows her
to be able to manage her weight and indulge over the weekend….isn’t that what motivates most of
us to keep coming, lol!
I recently sat down with Janine to ask her a few questions. I know you’ll enjoy getting to know
her as much as I have. The next time you’re in class stop by bike #6 and say hi!
Rashan – How did you hear about BESPOKE?
Janine – Someone passed me a flyer while shopping at FigAt7th.
Rashan – Do you recall who the instructor was for your first class?
Janine – Yes, it was Elady!
Rashan – Had you ever spun before joining BESPOKE?
Janine – Yes, I began spinning at a gym in Bermuda six months before moving to Los Angeles.
I tried a few other studios in the area before finding and joining BESPOKE.
Rashan – What keeps you coming back?
Janine – I love being able to work out in a fun and engaging environment and I’ve made great
friends.
Rashan – What has been your most memorable experience at BESPOKE?
Janine – The first thing that comes to mind is the first time Elady encouraged me to join the front
row. Prior to that I usually rode in the second row. I quickly discovered that I loved riding in the
front row, I will only ride the front row now.
Rashan – What is your favorite type of music to cycle to?
Janine – Hip Hop
Rashan – What is your favorite type of choreography?

Janine – Isolations (specifically Orlando’s) are challenging, I enjoy the challenge.
Rashan – If one song had to be on every playlist for the rest of your life what would that song
be?
Janine – “Moment for life” by Nicki Minaj
Rashan – What is your favorite part of being a BESPOKE rider?
Janine – My favorite part is the community feel I’ve found here.
Rashan – What advice would you give to new riders?
Janine – Stick with it! It only takes a few weeks to get hooked and you’ll meet great people
along the way.

5 Morning Routines of Energized & Confident People

Some mornings we SPRING out of bed! Others…it’s a struggle. In the same way that skipping breakfast can throw off your schedule, not having a sound morning routine can make you feel discombobulated and is often the reason why we feel sluggish and less confident to tackle our daily goals.

How you begin your day can affect everything: from your positivity to productivity; your drive to your determination. What can we do to change our routine to best ensure we hit each morning with a boost of energy and a smile? Lucky for you, we’ve done all the research. Below are the habits the world’s healthiest, most productive and confident people do every day. Add these tips and tricks into your new routine and you’ll never hit “snooze” again.

1) A Good Night’s Sleep
DID YOU KNOW? Your morning routine actually begins the night before! Make bedtime a priority by hitting the hay around the same time every night. Aim for 7-8 hours of beauty rest and make sure you disengage from all screens at least 1-2 hours before bed. Studies have shown that excessive iPhone or laptop use before sleep affects your REM cycle and leaves you groggy the next day.
WE RECOMMEND: A soothing face mask before bed, and our personal favorite is Avene’s Soothing Moisture Mask, available at Walmart

2) Drink Water as Soon as you Wake
DID YOU KNOW? Starting your day off with water is key to your day, as you have dehydrated your body through the night. Make sure to down a full glass upon waking to properly flush out your body’s toxins, leaving you livelier and more energized.
WE RECOMMEND: A hydrating face spray such as Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herb and Rosewater (at only $7!!)

3) Brief Meditation
DID YOU KNOW? Studies have shown that even just a couple minutes of meditation can help alleviate stress levels throughout your day. Try setting your alarm for 10 minutes earlier and focus on your breathing as your mind wakes up.
WE RECOMMEND: Free apps such as Calm and Headspace that offer quick meditation for mornings that leave you both relaxed and energized.

4) Making a List of Positives
DID YOU KNOW? Studies have shown that making a quick list of your positive qualities in the morning can spike your confidence and productivity incrementally each day.
WE RECOMMEND: Keeping an agenda or journal to jot down your positives (or glance at them for a quick pick-me-up) to keep your energy levels high throughout the day.

5) Dressing For Your Day
DID YOU KNOW? There’s quite a bit of truth to the phrase, “Dress for the job you want.” In our case, it’s the job of a happy and successful person! When you give into self-care and make yourself the most presentable for the world, opportunities will arise and fortune will shine on you. Because let’s face it, when you look good, you feel good!
WE RECOMMEND: Always dress your best, even if you aren’t going into work! Take an extra 10 minutes styling a new hairstyle, or trying a new face wash. Put on your favorite outfit even if you’re working from home. You’ll be amazed at how much this affects your positive outlook.

5 Ways to get More out of your Spin class

Instagram 3 640x640Spin class has become a favorite way for many to get exercise – it is the most popular group cycling exercise spinning classes around Los Angeles California in gyms around the world. It is easy to see why – it is not just a passing fad; it is a very effective way to lose weight and stay fit. Many people also like it because unlike lone workouts where it can get lonely and leave one feeling discouraged, this is a group sport that is led by an instructor, meaning there are higher chances of staying motivated.

Spinning is not easy; it is intense; you will be on that bike for between 40 and 50 minutes for each session and it can get very tiring. In fact, first timers will tell you that it can be so grueling that time slows down to a stop. So how do the more experienced spinners do it? Using a great technique called visualization. Spin class instructors use it to get everyone through it, but you can take it to a whole new level if you want to get the most out of your spin class. Visualization in spin class simply means that you transport your thoughts to some place that is more meaningful to you than the gym – in other words, you mentally travel to a place where you will enjoy riding much more.

Bespoke Cycling Classes in Los Angeles, CaliforniaYour instructor will help you get started – he may tell you, for instance, to imagine that you are enjoying a ride on a trail on a warm day – but because the physical exercise is so exhausting you may find that you don’t stay there for long. Your tired muscles soon bring you back to the gym and you may even find that you are too tired to continue. It doesn’t have to be that way; you can improve your visualization techniques using these 5 tips:

1.    It is very important to close your eyes when spinning to get rid of distractions. You want to be able to mentally focus on a place that means something to you and it is hard to do that with all the movement around you. Closing your eyes helps keep you in the mental location of your choice.

2.    Decide on a cycling location that has meaning to you. Do you particularly enjoy the commute to work? Did you cherish a holiday in rural France? If yes, imagine yourself cycling through the hills on a warm morning with the sun beating on your back. Do not limit yourself to your cycling alone – around you there are people walking on the path, there could be cows and other domestic animals – in other words, whatever makes it real for you.

3.    It is important to stay positive throughout your visualization experience. You should see yourself achieving your goal. If, for instance, your visualization is of getting to work stay with it until you park your bike at your office. When you feel yourself faltering remind yourself that you can do it.

4.    It is important to address all your senses during visualization. Visual – what do you see? Auditory- what do you hear?  Kinesthetic – how does your body feel? Smell – what does the air around you smell like? And lastly, taste – how does it taste? All these things help to make your visualization all the more real.

5.    Lastly, visualization is not the easiest thing to achieve. There are many distractions in spin class and you may find that you fail the first few times you try it. Do not be discouraged – the good news is that the more you do it the better you get at it so keep trying and before long you will be transported quite easily to a mental destination of your choice.

These tips should help you with visualization for spin classes in Los Angeles.

Healthy Eating Tips

It is common knowledge in the fitness world that exercise alone is not enough to make someone healthy. Therefore, it has to be supplemented with a healthy eating habit. Cycling lifestyle is no different, if cycling is your exercise of choice, you need to ensure that you eat healthy foods at appropriate quantities; otherwise, you will never realize your fitness goals. Bespoke Cycling Studio in Los Angeles, California based fitness center that offers the best cycling sessions and health advice to trainees. Here are the healthy eating tips that you need to practice once you start a cycling lifestyle:

1. Focus on buying fresh foods

When shopping for foods, choose the unprocessed or minimally processed foods because they have more nutrients than the processed ones. They also have little or no toxins and chemicals, thus, they pose less health risks. Unprocessed and natural foods include fruits, plants, nuts and meats. You should also avoid processed foods that are labeled natural or healthy because in most cases they turn out to be harmful despite the enticing labels. When buying the unprocessed foods, go a step further and find out whether the animals that produced them were fed on grass and natural feeds or non-organic ones because this affects the quality of the food. Buy organic foods when you can afford to buy because they are healthier.

2. Drink a lot of water

Ensure that you stay hydrated by drinking at least 12 glasses or half a litter of water in a day. Drinking enough water is crucial if you frequent the gym because it will allow you to have high energy during a workout session. Water also promotes good health which means that you will always be in top shape for exercising.

3. Eat a lot of vegetables

Veges make you feel full faster, therefore, ensure that you eat them every day. You can cook different types of veges in different days to keep things interesting. While at it, you should cook using healthy oils and substitute your salad dressing with lime or lemon juice because salad dressings usually have a high content of calories. You should also ensure that you eat a balanced diet because your body requires different nutrients to function properly. Also, ensure that you eat a healthy breakfast that can fuel you through the day.

4. Eat omega 3 fatty acids

The most common source of omega 3 is salmon, sardines, tuna, walnuts, cauliflower, mustard seeds, flaxseeds and brussel sprouts. They are also present in spinach, kale, strawberries and raspberries. Omega 3 fatty acids provide energy in the body and reduce the risk of inflammation and heart disease.

5. Eat spice food

Most spices have health benefits that will prolong your lifespan. For example cinnamon controls blood sugar and pepper increases fat burning.

Ideally, a healthy lifestyle also includes kicking bad habits such as eating at restaurants too often, junk food and alcohol. Look here for more about the benefits of indoor cycling.

Cycling and The Busy LA Life

As a resident of Los Angeles, you know just how busy the life can get – you have to work, you have a social life to attend to and if you have a family, it is even more hectic. Many LA residents find that they don’t have enough time to keep fit with all these commitments pressing on them. Fortunately, there is one indoor sporting activity that you can take that comes with a whole host of benefits – you can enroll in a spin class.

Los Angeles Certified Spin Classes by Bespoke

In case you are wondering what it is, it is simply indoor cycling in one stationary position. What’s the fun in that? Spin classes are great because you don’t have to find time to go outdoors to get some exercise. They are conducted by a certified spin class instructor and they can be made bespoke depending on your needs. Apart from the fact that they are convenient, they are also great because:

•    They are FUN! I know…how much fun can you have cycling on one spot? Actually, you don’t just sit there and cycle – you cycle to music which makes it a lot more enjoyable. Your certified instructor can take requests if you would like any particular music to cycle to. Read how Cycling can influence your mind, as well as your body.

•    Anyone can join regardless to whether you are a beginner or a professional cyclist. This is such a flexible activity because of the intervals between workouts. Your trainer will decide on what intervals should be depending on how good a cyclist you are so you never have to push yourself past your limits – in other words, your become stronger and more fit over time without giving your muscles too heavy a load. Learn here how Bespoke instructors get certified.

•    You lose weight in all parts of your body. Some people dismiss spin class because they assume that it is only good for the legs. That is simply not true. Once again, your trainer will create bespoke sessions to make sure that you get a full-body workout. How about, for example, cycling while dribbling a basketball, or with dumbbells?

•    Take advantage of the class to foster team spirit. Traditionally, cycling has been a lone sport where you on the road with your thoughts. Spin class changes all that – you have training-mates and there is lots of camaraderie.

•    Injuries are rare in spin class because you never do more than your body can bear.

If you have joined an LA spinning class yet it is high time that you found one near you!

What Certifications Should A Spin Instructor Have?

As a resident of L.A, California who enjoys spinning, did you know that it is quite easy to make money off your hobby? There are many people who have done it and you can too because it is relatively easy – in fact, so long as you are an active and outgoing person it is one of the easiest certifications that you can get. The first thing that you need to do, obviously, is get serious about your spin classes in Los Angeles so that you can perfect the sport before you seek certification. Attend several classes a week and while you train observe how the instructor interacts with the class. This way, when it comes to spin instructor certification you will have a much easier time.

As for the actual certification, you need to register with a certified spins instructor. The training class lasts one day and you can expect to be in a class of between 25 and 30 people. Here, you will learn the basic things that you need to be able to instruct a spin class. You will be taught, for example, how you should set up a bike, how to assemble the class and so on. Once you are through with that your instructor will take you through a few runs to ensure that you have understood everything. The training costs about $300 but it I worth every dime considering that you will recover your money with just a few classes.

Bespoke Cycling Studio LA
The physical part of the training is not all. There is also a theory part that consists of 50 multiple choice questions but don’t worry – they are all pretty easy and you can be sure that you will get a pass. This part of the certification comes about one week after you do the 1-day class and the questions can be found online. Once you are through with it you are certified. Remember, you need to re-certify every 2 years.

Certification is obviously not the end of the journey – you have to find employment if you are going to make any money. You can start with your own gym or one that is near you. Ask L.A based spin instructors if they have room for one more spin instructor even if you have to work part-time. If they don’t already have a spin class you may want to discuss the possibility of you setting one up for them. You can also work in several different gyms if you want to make money a bit faster.
